Clean video. I really like the features you implemented which were overlooked by other popular card games. I love that you can scroll through the history of played cards and see the cards in your deck and graveyards. The compressed energy scale is a great idea and I think it will balance matches very well, especially in the beginning of a game. The artwork is amazing and I’m excited to see more cards and mechanics soon.

Looks awesome so far. Cannot wait for the finished product. Would love to have a game to play that I have a chance to win based on skill and not who bought the most card packs.

This game is so beautiful. A real work of art! I’m super stoked to play it! Can’t wait!

Love the artwork and the removal of the drag mechanic. I am a little worried about the mana growth, but it’s hard to really know how you feel before playing. Can’t wait for the beta!

I feel confident that this system will be an improvement over other systems currently in place, but you’re right that its hard to tell for sure before plenty of testing and data comes through.

This is what I really like about these devs. They listened to our feedback and improved the game. Other devs should learn too!

It is very evident that they really do listen and they really do care. There is so much innovation from these developers and it’s steps like these that can revolutionize the gaming industry. Rock on, Able Apes!

Looks very polished. I am undecided on the resource mechanics(I think it’s one of those things you have to play a few games with to decide on), but I do think this game has a lot of potential.

WOW! You guys blow me away! 10/10!

My only suggestion is to center the cards on the screen instead of left justified.

Oh, and I disagree with having a personal timer that causes you to end the game. The one minute turn timer is perfect… but losing the game because you ran out of time seems a bit much.

I agree with the cards perhaps starting centered ad just putting the most recent cards on the right(ofc staying centered) and I am also a big supporter of the clock mechanic as it reminds me of chess in some fashions. This only adds many more viable strategies and makes every game winnable.

Cory

I like the idea of being able to lose the game because I consistently took too long… I think that adds a another skill aspect to the game (thinking on your feet and managing another resource – time) and encourages being a little quicker than your opponent during long matches. I think 10 minutes per player is plenty of time; matches don’t usually go longer than 15 minutes so it only matters in long games.

i am tentative to choose sides on this matter (haha) but i would have to agree Derek, it seems a little odd and disrupts the “feng shui” of the gameplay…

ps. sorry for the bad pun don’t ban me plz

I agree about left-justified looking weird. What if instead of default centering or default left-justified, there were 8 (or whatever) locations you could place your cards, so you could intentionally put gaps between them? Then cards could have abilities that just target even # spaces, or the three center spaces, or whatever.

So. Much. Awesome. Bruh. New logo is the perfect feel. And the game looks right on the money. You have something really special here I think. Are you guys really 12 months out from a beta though!? I can’t wait that long lol actually I can haha

Looks great so far! I agree with other comments that having the cards centralized would feel better and have my focus on the center of my screen more. Feels a little more comfortable.

Mitch
Guest
Mitch

I agree here as well. Theoretically I liked it because they’re close to where heroes are located (also left justified), but aesthetically my mind “needed” it to be centered to feel right. I don’t know if that’s from being used to all the other games I play where the action is centered, and I wonder if we would get used to it or if it’ll always feel off. I fear the latter, but if there’s enough concern then it’s something they’d likely consider changing if it’s not too demanding on the backend.

I’m the same way, even in physical games I always start in the center even though in yugioh with links now it isn’t a great idea, maybe if they made it a setting that could work, since it’s a purely aesthetic choice it wouldn’t impact gameplay, I don’t know how difficult that would be programming wise though

Mitch

Cool 😎

One additional note: some cards had a long entrance animation time (which I love). If players can lose the game by spending too much time then every second counts. Those entrance times could actually have negative impacts on a player’s ability to win a winnable game / players desire to use the card in the first place. It would feel really bad if someone needed 1-2 more seconds to send their last couple Units to hit face for the win but ran out of time, knowing that they didn’t lose from lack of skill, rather from choosing to use certain cards that gave them a time disadvantage. Just a couple seconds isn’t much, but when tenants of thousands of games are played (or more), it could be massive. Just something to be mindful of.

Can’t tell you how happy I am to have a deck tracker built into the game. So tired of pc players being able to use trackers in other card games while I am stuck trying to remember what I have left. Can’t wait for this to launch.

Griffin

I like the layout but I still would like everything to be more centralized, having the heroes and minions all the way to the left seems odd to me. Maybe this is just my perspective from playing a lot of hearthstone but I would definetly prefer having things in the middle and moving outwards

A lot of the in-match features are very neat, like the history and deck tracker, as well as not having to wait for people to end their turns due to the game clock, but one thing I do have a small qualm about is that the game was advertised to be mostly skill-based and less RNG, and while the mana and card draw mechanics make it like that, a lot of the cards that were teased in the video had heavy RNG effects. Also the main menu screen looks gimmicky overall, but each button is quite nice on its own, it would be nice if it was redesigned slightly. Music’s great and the searching screen is fantastic.

Great feature building in viewing your deck and graveyards. Other card games have 3rd party plug ins for that. Way to think ahead! Would love to see more game modes in the future as well like special challenges, random decks etc.

Wow!! The game is looking great! I absolutely love the innovation that you guys are putting into this game and makes me even more excited for the beta version. The only thing I don’t agree with is the music playing in the background of the battle screen. I feel it’s a little to calm for a battle. Besides that though, the gameplay looks smooth and the art looks fantastic! Keep up the great work!!!

Maile

I agree. The music seems pretty calm. It seems like a more aggressive soundtrack would give you that sense of tension and being in the middle of a war/battle. Or, have more epic themes based around your faction. Thing of things like the music from Terminator or Star Wars, especially at the home screen where you want to be immersed, not soothed. Unless of course the homescreen were more of a staging area or HQ and therefore you had a bit more relaxed feeling as your troops were preparing for battle but not in the thick of it.

The game clock is a great innovation. Strictly speaking, you do not need a turn clock as long as you have a game clock. Why not let a player use up half of the game time (foolishly?) on one turn. Or, you can learn from the world of chess: allow players to agree on different time limits, either per game, or per move, or per game plus extra seconds per move. Players would then have separate rankings for each type of time limit. (Blitz will be something else: a full game in one minute, or a game where you have to move in, say, seven seconds.) The ability to review all of the plays so far, not just a few recent ones, is also excellent. AbleApes really seems to have figured out how to improve over existing CCGs. I am wondering about the long-term interest. I’m guessing that periodically, new… Read more »

I Really like the sound and visual quality work that you guys have put into this game. Might add a little more sound and movement on initial loading screen pre mene. Add mute button for that screen that remembers if it is on or off so players have an option for silent mode if they play around people sleeping. Your game play thus far as well as innovations have all been fantastic. The addition of card histories and left in deck is phenomenal. Also great resources idea! I love your art thus far for the card graphics though they don’t entirely match your menu screen in feel. They are all sci-fi, but the cards feel crisp and deep (like having paintings in card form) where your menu feels fun, friendly, and inviting. I enjoy both, but there is a slight disconnect in style between the two. On the music side… Read more »

Music is really soothing. Me gusta. On a side note, how proactive are you going to be on card nerfs? Blizzard has a spotty track history on responding to nerfs – how extensive will the playtesting be to keep everything fair and balanced?

So many awesome things. I love the overall player timer as well as the turn timer.
The built in deck tracker and graveyard is nice.
The energy system seems like it may just need some time to get used to, and then it will be fine. Very clean designs, and main screen is neat.

My only complaint, and I’m being very picky, was the sound effect following a hit to the face by the opponent in the video. I found the “audience reaction” very cliche, but perhaps I’m just being too hard.

Maybe also something to signify Epic minions from regular minions when on the board. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can’t wait for this game!

One thought I had was to show more of the cards on the screen so you can see their abilities and strengths. Perhaps redesigning some of the icon placements a bit so the player cards can be moved up to show the full card instead of just half. The “end turn” button could be moved to the left (further away from the cards to avoid accidental contact) and the timer either moved or redesigned as a bar or something might allow for more space.

Thoughts?
