Cosmic Brawl Kickstarter Canceled, Game Paused

Hey! After much thought and debate, we’ve made our final decision.

Kickstarter Canceled, Game Paused

It’s clear our Kickstarter is doing quite poorly. As a result, we’ve decided to cancel the Kickstarter.

Along with this – development of Cosmic Brawl is also paused indefinitely.

I’m not a big fan of long post-mortems, so I won’t bore you with one 🙂

Thanks for Being a Part of Our Journey!

We started this journey about 5 months ago.

Some of you have been with us from the beginning. Some of you have contributed with your amazing ideas. Some of you with your passionate support. All of this has really meant a lot to me, Chris and our team – thank you!

To all of you – on behalf of Chris, myself, and our team – thank you very much! I enjoyed interacting with you and discussing ideas, it was a very fun and educational journey for me.

I wish you the very best in your journey through life! Godspeed, take care.

This is disappointing, but not too surprising. It’s a tough space and it was nice to see you trying to shake it up. But, the process lost some focus. You got your audience with a promise of free to play then based it’s continued progress on them funding your kickstarter program. I think you may have seen more success by continuing down your original path to be free to play with cosmetic monetization. Unfortunately, I’m not totally convinced that was always the plan. If that was the plan, then presumably you already had funding for the full development of the game from the start. I still think a F2P, cosmetic only game would work if done right. I believe if you’d asked early followers of Fortnite or Team Fortress or Dota whether they would have spent money on cosmetics, they probably would have said no. But, after they play and… Read more »

I 100% agree with your post Maile as I too was surprised when the Kickstarter happened as you stated I think prior to that we were previously led to believe the game already had the funding needed.

Good bye Cosmic Brawl. While this isn’t the happy ending I desired, I still don’t regret clicking on the add I saw in December. It has been such a journey seeing all the spoilers and the hype. While there would be things I would change if I was the lead, you still did the right calls and the approach to making this game was awesome. Thank you for trying to make a groundbreaking game.

While this is disappointing news, I have been following the Kickstarter since it started, so I can’t say I’m surprised (based on how it was going). That being said, it seems like there is a significant disconnect between the poll you guys did last month (for which 750 people said they would consider supporting the Kickstarter) and the results of the actual Kickstarter (which less than 150 people backed). The main reason for this is most likely either the new pricing model or the $29 minimum pledge level (both of which were announced after the poll). I’m guessing it’s the latter, since I’m guessing the “all cards are free” aspect of the game attracted a substantial number of people for whom $29 is a lot of money to spend on a “free-to-play” game that they won’t be able to play until next year. With that in mind, if you guys… Read more »

Very sorry to see this idea crash and burn, just when progress was getting exciting. Don’t know if I wasn’t paying attention, but I don’t remember funding being an issue early on. Anyways, it was a good idea and I hope someone can create something similar in the future.
