Due to a one-time extension – the first 25,000 players will get the exclusive Card Back (instead of just the first 5,000).
We made this extension because we hit the 5,000 target very, very quickly – and a lot of players didn’t have the time to tell their friends about it.
Psst, if you haven’t voted YES yet – do so now to score a beta invite!
this might sound weird but how are you gonna get your money? like whats your income for making this game.
adds bud there will have to be adds
Thanks for your support Colton!
Our game will *NOT* have any advertisements.
I would also like to know what the plan for revenue would be.
As much as I love the idea of all cards being free there have to either be advertisements
or something to else other than cards to pay for.
Otherwise I just don’t see how any project could sustain itself
Thanks for your support Henry!
Check out my comment:
As long as they develop a large enough fan/player base and give the players plenty of things to purchase (not crazy expensive of course) they can easily make money to sustain themselves. Not to mention, if the game becomes extremely popular like Hearthstone and gets involved in esports then the game will make plenty of money that way as well.
Thanks for your support Jordan!
> how are you gonna get your money? like whats your income for making this game.
Our game will have an in-game store with 2 types of items:
1) Cosmetic: Items like Heroes, Card backs, Card trims, Boards, Alternate art packs, etc.
2) Non-Cosmetic: Items that don’t give either player an advantage during a match. For example: Extra deck slots, Stats tracking, etc. We’ll share more details about non-cosmetics in the future, we’re still debating if we should share all our ideas on this now or close to release.
This seems like it is gonna be a indie version of hearthstone… sorry is I’m rude, but I’m still gonna be very excited
Hey Jonathan thanks for your support!
> This seems like it is gonna be a indie version of hearthstone…
Actually, our game is going to be very different – even some core gameplay things like the Resource mechanic. We do *NOT* want to make a game that’s just an indie version of a AAA game. IMHO that’ll be a waste of our time!
I may buy something JUST to support the business model.
Even if the game isnt to my liking, the approach is
Thanks Freddie, really appreciate your support!
What is the starting number of deck slots in this case? Paying for extras seems fine, but only if there is a reasonable number to start with
Hey Kevin thanks for the support!
Starting number for deck slots will be either 10 or 15, we’re still deciding.
15? yeah I would say that is enough
10-15 seems like a lot 4-6 seems more realistic if you want people to be buying deck slots
4-6 is not enough. If this game would be like Hearthstone, without the pay to win, Hearthstone has 18 deck slots I believe and many players have 9 or more decks because there are different classes and they require different decks. I’m comparing this to hearthstone, but I presume Boomrah will probably be different, but in Hearthstone, there’s eight classes, if you have a deck for each class, that would be close to 10 already. So 4-6 decks probably wouldn’t be enough enless the game only has 4-5 classes.
This may sound funny but I actually think you guys should go with the lower number of 10 deck slots, cause if you can live up to the potential I want this game to succeed. So I feel like if you had 15 base deck slots there would not be much incentive for people to buy any deck slots and I want you guys to make money. 10 deck slots are already pretty good DEPENDING on how many heroes/card colors/faction types you have for your game. (don’t exactly what your strategy is but like the heroes in Hearthstone and how they have different available cards that is what I am referencing)
Hey Alek really appreciate your support
Thanks for the suggestion too, will definitely consider it!
I’d say go with 10 as that already feels like a lot and 5 more deck slot lowers the number of people who would buy more deck slots. I appericate that the game isn’t pay2win but if you want the game to do well in the long run you need to make money.
Hey Paxton really appreciate your support
I think you should be workshop the second category with customers before release as some of these might be considered turn off if implemented incorrectly. At best, you just have a premium account option that has all the extra bells and whistles. I wonder if you will go on a subscription model or a one-time fee for that.
The first category will develop naturally by watching how people react to your content as you produce it. Basically give people cosmetic items based on what people react to positively and diversify cosmetics sufficiently in order retain a large audience without catering to every tiny niche interest.
The sound of extra deck slots concerns me quite a bit. I know you don’t want to give to much away but can you elaborate?
Gir5434 – Thanks for your support!
Our game will include 10-15 deck slots for free. Additional deck slots will cost in-game currency.
How many cards per deck?
Thanks for your support Teddy!
We’re thinking 25. Will adjust it of course based on playtesting and beta.
Can I get the first version play testing/beta version? Super hyped for this.
I would really love to be a part of beta testing aswell if its possible.
Thanks for clearing that up. I was under the impression that it would allow you to have more cards in your deck than others.
it’s just more slots to make saved decks from your cards.
This sounds like a solid strategy to make money from the game while staying away pay to win mechanics.
I hope you make this game! I told my friends about this project. I am hopeful.
Thanks Enes really appreciate your support!
Maybe for a non cosmetic item try a temporary double ranking XP or animated emote packs for cosmetics.
that times 2 XP will still give an advantage to players who are willing to pay for the game
Hey Brandon, good point! Just to clarify – our goal is to make sure neither player has an advantage *during* a match based on how much money they spent in the game.
That said, players who make purchases will get advantages outside of a match – such as cosmetics, extra deck slots, stat tracking, etc.
Whatsup MrAlbum, thanks for your support
Great suggestions on custom board, will definitely consider it!
> However, I have one technical concern: So the game will be mobile-optimized. The only way to do that to my knowledge is to use lower-resolution artwork for the cards and card backs.
Actually most of the mobile optimization is related to things like VFX, shaders, animations, memory management, etc – i.e. not resolution of static images.
I don’t think non-cosmetic items are such a good idea. Since they give you an advantage during games, it is just like how you have to spend money on cards, instead it’s just deck slots. It is still the same problem. Do you have a plan to fix this or is there a way around it?
Hey Erich – Thanks for your support!
> Since they give you an advantage during games, it is just like how you have to spend money on cards, instead it’s just deck slots.
How does having an extra deck slot (i.e. they can build one more deck than you) give a player an advantage during a game?
Oh, I thought extra deck slots meant you could have more cards in your deck. Thanks
If you do a best out of three kind of game, and they can react better
Constant tinkering makes it a challenge for me to use more than one deck slot on hearth.
I think the idea of stats tracking is an extremely smart way to make a profit off of this game. A lot of players use tools like this to improve their learning curve, so seizing the market as soon as possible before anyone else is something I haven’t seen in a while from a game company.
Whatsup John, thanks for your support Happy to hear you like the idea of stat tracking as a purchase item!
I don’t understand the extra deck slots? Maybe I’m envisioning it wrong but it seems like having a larger deck would be an advantage
Whatsup Luke, by “extra deck slot” I mean a player can build 1 more deck.
I’d pay for a play-by-play game recap. Even if only the last 5 games or so were kept.
I’m not sure if it was answered below but how many deck slot will each player start off with? Will there be one for each class? a.k.a 5 deck slots for 5 classes? Or the default like Hearthstone where each player starts with 9 deck slot before their update to 18, or something completely different?
Whatsup Versus, thanks for your support! Default will probably be 2 decks per race, although some players in our community suggested just 1 per race because they felt that’ll make it more likely for players to purchase slots.
no share, please! it would also give you guys an idea of what the crowd likes and dislikes.
They are going to kicksart it.
Cosmetic Items. if you watch the video they sent out to anyone on the email list they tell you that you will be able to buy cosmetic items for your cards. I.E. card backs and items of the sort. I hope this helps! I’m excited for the game to be here, I’m hoping to be a part of beta soon!
Two things stand out for me. Making every card free. Mobile optimized. This will be your ticket to a breakout game, mark my words.
Don’t change these two no matter what.
Thanks for the comment, good point!
Here are the 10 reasons.
10. For/By CCG Players
9. Optimized for Mobile
8. In Game Tournaments
7. Better Matchmaking/Ladder
6. Exciting Sci Fi
5. Better Balancing Approach
3. Controlled RNG
2. All Cards Free
Did I get it all right?
Yup! You got it all right!
So stoked about this. Lesgo!
Boomrah! So happy to play and be a very small part of this new game! Being a long standing CCG Player, I can’t wait to try something new, fresh and exciting! Can’t wait!
Thanks Joshua, really appreciate your support!!
Let’s get those 5000! Terrye!
Thanks man, appreciate it!
how will the mana system be ?
I read that the demo will be finished in about 3 months. Do you think the first 5,000 could test out the game, also how do I know I’m in the first 5,000?
Thanks for your support Hayden!
> Do you think the first 5,000 could test out the game, also how do I know I’m in the first 5,000?
Yup, we’ll definitely invite the community to test alpha and beta, although the demo won’t be be test-ready. If you’re in the first 5,000 – you’ll get an email to confirm the exclusive Card Back, this email is sent about an hour after you submit “Yes Build It.”
it’s been days and i didn’t get an email, what did I do wrong?
Hey, just checked – you’re in our list and will get the Card Back!
Not sure what happened to the email though, is it in your spam folder?
Could it be too 25,000 for the beta? XD like the card back is says 1st 25,000 get it in now. I was like 5,700 something to vote yes and I’d be heartbroken if I couldn’t get in, this game sounds extremely exciting!
I got it now, it was just a few days late, can’t wait for the game!
Hell yeah build it!!!
Also you guys should do a Kickstarter my roommate did it for his indie film project. This is the way of the future and I feel your game is a damn good fit and I’ll definately support it. So again build it!!!
Thanks for the vote Matthew!
> Also you guys should do a Kickstarter my roommate did it for his indie film project. This is the way of the future and I feel your game is a damn good fit and I’ll definately support it.
Thanks also for suggesting Kickstarter and offering your support, I really appreciate it!! Right now we’re developing a gameplay demo, will be ready in about 3 months. After that, we’ll build the full game only if at least 5,000 players vote YES on this page. Once we decide to build the full game, we can then look into the pros/cons of doing a Kickstarter, and ask for community feedback too. Thanks again for the sugegstion!
I voted yes already. What’s your deadline for getting to 5,000 players and what will you do if you miss it?
Thanks for the vote!
> What’s your deadline for getting to 5,000 players…
Right now we’re working on a gameplay demo, should be ready in about 3 months. That’s also our deadline for getting to 5,000 players.
> … and what will you do if you miss it?
I’m 99.99% confident that at least 5,000 players will vote YES before then! But in the unlikely event we don’t get YES vote from 5,000 players – then we won’t develop this game.
That said you can help make sure this game gets developed – just share this page with your friends who like CCGs
Come on just 5,000 we can do this guys.
Hey David really appreciate your support
> I wish you luck for both your profit and my enjoyment.
Thanks! Our theory is if we deliver players a lot of enjoyment, profits will follow
Just voted yes. Gonna share with some of my friends to help you all get to your 5000. Hope you build this game! Good luck.
Thanks for voting! I really appreciate you sharing this with friends too
When I saw an ad on youtube I was stoked. Because as an FTP Hearthstone player I struggle to keep up. they are trying to make it FTP friendly but they took way to long to implement it. Leaving the medieval era and going to sci-fi is perfect and the art looks beautiful. I love the idea I will be recommending it to my friends to sign up and I can’t wait to see a demo of the game.
Hi, just voted yes to build it, also, is there any way that we could keep track of the progress of the other people that voted?
Oh sorry I ment the amount of people that voted
Good video. I think this along with your proposal post really solidifies your guys overall vision for this new ccg.
When will you start sharing pics, concepts, etc?
Thanks Jimmy! We’ll start sharing pics in a couple weeks.
How is tournament mode going to work? I’m most excited about that and also free cards obviously too.
Thanks for the Q! We’re planning to use Sit & Go approach for the in-game tournaments. Will share more details in the near future, and will ask for feedback from the player community.
Controlled RNG is the right approach as I said before. Good on you for realizing this.
I really want you guys to build this game, definitely +1 from me/
Thanks for the vote Kevin, definitely agree with you on controlled RNG!
So glad this is sci fi. I like fantasy too but its a little played out honestly.
Yeah more frequent balaance patches is the way to go. I like the waay LOL does it.
What classes will Boomra have? Your video showed robot and alien creature I think right?
Thanks man! Happy to hear you like our ideas on sci-fi theme and frequent balancing
> What classes will Boomra have?
We’ll announce this in a few weeks, stay tuned!!
Wait they have a video can you send me the link?
Yea, honestly super excited for a sci fi card game. Great job guys~
Thanks Connor, really appreciate your support!
Yo, the game looks great and all, but the choice of having all cards available to you once you get the game is a little strange. Half the fun in card games is finally opening up that card you’ve always wanted. Hearthstone, for example, is really grindy and you have to sink a lot of time into getting not that much card packs. Gwent, another example, gives out card packs very liberally and you can have a full collection just by playing the game for 2 months. both of those are bad examples in my opinion. I just wouldn’t feel that sense of pride and accomplishment by having everything at my disposal from the beginning, you know?
‘Sens of pride an accomplishment’ I know this comment is a month old, but was this a joke in relation to recent swbf 2 comments? Please go back to EA and pay some more money to open up some more lootboxes.
Yes yes yes! Really looking forward to the pics and gameplay video. Can’t come soon enough!
I’ve played a wide variety of card games, both in real life and online, from the big ones like MTG, Hearthstone, and Yugioh, to small but solid ones like Shadowverse and Cardfight Vanguard. So far the only ones with any real community aspect I’ve found are the paper ones, and of course those are only due to meeting people in person. However, what I’m most interested in is the “rewards you for playing well” aspect, as in, how could one possibly implement a meterstick for how well someone is playing, when there is a wide variety of differences among deck types. For example, the basic aggro strategy of playing as many cards as fast as you can, is suicide in a control or combo based deck.
> what I’m most interested in is the “rewards you for playing well” aspect, as in, how could one possibly implement a meterstick for how well someone is playing
Hey, sounds like our wording was a little confusing, sorry!
By “how well you play” – we’re referring to win % in ranked play. We’re giving higher weight to win % and lower weight to number of games played. So, if you play really well (high win %) but can only play 5-6 games a day – you’ll still be able to reach the top level of our ranked ladder.
Won’t this reward players for playing less? Anyone can get on a short winning streak, but a high winning percentage over time is a truer measure of skill.
> high winning percentage over time is a truer measure of skill.
Agreed. What OP is referring to is different context, about rewarding players for the number of games played, irrespective of winning %.
As a person who daily does MtG, Yugioh, and Hearthstone I can’t wait for this to appear. I’ve almost always tried to be f2p in online card games, so one that’ll assure that for me is a definite dream come true. Can’t wait for this, and best of luck.
Thanks for your support chaosyubel!
Stay tuned for some more updates…
I always play hearthstone, but it’s super hard to play without buying packs. This sounds like a really cool game!
I have played many online card games, the idea of another game like Hearthstone, but without being destroyed by RNG is what brought me here. I was wondering, what is going to be special about this game? Is there going to be multiple classes, and what’s the theme?
> what is going to be special about this game? Is there going to be multiple classes, and what’s the theme?
It’s going to be a Sci-Fi game, set in space. There will be multiple races, will be posting a video on this in 3-4 weeks, including example card art for each race!!
This sounds amazing in pretty much every way and if you were able to pull this off, that would be amazing. I have three questions and I don’t know if this is the place to ask, but why not. Even though it’s being mobile optimized, will there be a PC version? What kinds of rewards will you give if all the cards are free? And will there be a draft mode, similar to arena in hearthstone? Thank you so much for coming up with this, rarely does an ad on YouTube make me actually care about something.
Thanks for your support Gabe!
> Even though it’s being mobile optimized, will there be a PC version?
Our first release will be for Android and iOS only. After that, we’ll support additional platforms based on demand from our players.
> What kinds of rewards will you give if all the cards are free?
Our in-game store will have a lot of cosmetic items (heroes, card backs, cart trims, boards, alternate art packs, etc). Plus some non-cosmetic items also (like extra deck slots, etc).
Our game will have virtual currency used to purchase these items. So our rewards will include both cosmetic items and virtual currency.
> And will there be a draft mode
Yup, we want to include a Draft mode in our first release. We have some innovative ideas for it, will share more details in the weeks ahead!
Regardless of gameplay, there will always be merit (and even some charm) to an OCG with free cards, but one issue stands out to me.
With every card being readily available to every player, it becomes easier for players to follow net decks, only playing what is considered the “best deck” in the current meta. The challenge of standing up to these net decks with different, off-meta cards is eliminated (which in my opinion is worth it for having a free game.)
There are two ways I can see this issue being avoided:
1: Taking extra care in making every card (and possible archetype) as balanced as possible.
2: Incentivizing new and/or fun decks/cards.
Regardless of any issues, I do look forward to being a part of this community and playing this game in the future. Good luck!
Hey thanks for your support, really appreciate it!
> With every card being readily available to every player, it becomes easier for players to follow net decks, only playing what is considered the “best deck” in the current meta.
Excellent point, I agree 100%. Great thoughts on the solution too, we’ll be focusing on #1. We’ll implement detailed process to keep every card as balanced as possible – with frequent balance patches, and proactive detection of OP cards (We’ve developed a proprietary formula that will help us with this detection).
Sounds pretty ambitious with all of these points. I passed this along to a couple of my buddies.
Don’t take it the wrong way but TBH I don’t know how you can release all of these. Large AAA studios haven’t been able to release these after many many years.
Btw when are you going to release your game? Will there be a PC version?
If you do a decent guild implementation that is going to be a game changer. No exaggeration it really is going to be.
Thanks! We have some cool ideas on guilds, will be sharing more details in the weeks ahead
Haha pretty hilarious video guys. You’ve got my vote! Got any details on coop or too soon to ask?
Thanks man, happy to hear you liked the video!
> Got any details on coop or too soon to ask?
We’re thinking of a 2v2 draft mode, with an interesting twist. Will share more details in the near future to get feedback from our player community.
Clicked yes, hoping you guys make this game, 2 thumbs way up!! I like your commitment to listen to us players.
I’ll play your game if you make ladder climb more fun and less of a grind. That’s all I ask.
Hey Josh! Yup, we’ll definitely do that
Frequent balancing is such an important thing and you can do it because you’re an online only CCG. How often are you planning to do balancing patches?
Thanks for the vote Barry!
> How often are you planning to do balancing patches?
We’re planning to do regular balance patches once a month.
Can’t wait to play this game.
Yes! I will be looking forward to your finished product! No rush though, haha.
You guys had me at limited RNG, make it a battle of wits instead of a battle of coin flips. I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars to get the cards only to play a game of coin flips. When is Boomrah coming out btw?
> When is Boomrah coming out btw?
Our estimate is 12-18 months. Don’t hold us to it though
You guys have the right idea and the right direction. I hope this game gets made with all the promises.
Thanks for your support Mithun!
Thanks for the regualr updates on your process and what you guys are working on.
I just rewatched the video lol. Really sounds like you’re trying to addresss the complaints players have with CCGs. Very interested to see how successful your game is. Honestly I feel it should be one of the most successful CCGs!
The changes to season length are so needed. And having all cards just out for everyone is super brilliant. So many players just don’t have time to keep grinding and paying out a ton of money all the time. I mean I guess some do, but come on most of us don’t. Cool video, cool game idea guys.
How do we know we were part of the first 5,000?
Thanks for your support Sam!
> How do we know we were part of the first 5,000?
If you’re part of the first 5,000 – you’ll get an email from us confirming the exclusive Card Back. Email is sent an hour after you click the ‘Yes Build It’ button on this page.
I just got addicted to Hearthstone and sunk $30 and I’m nowhere near a good deck. Please save me before I give blizzard more money.
Thanks for voting. We’re here to save you!
If (or should I say when) you get the 5,000 votes, when do you think it will be finished?
Our estimate is 12-18 months (from when we hit the 5,000 votes and start full development of the game). Don’t hold us to it though
BTW, we’re right now working on a gameplay demo, will share video in 2-3 months.
As I ftp (free to play) clash Royale player in the top ranks I know the huge struggle of meta.. I have a suggestion that might work out pretty well, make sure cards have a lot of counterparts and a lot of combos that rely on skill and decision-making.
Thanks for your support Gavin!
> make sure cards have a lot of counterparts and a lot of combos that rely on skill and decision-making
Yup, this is definitely our plan!
Is there going to be any limited card/drafting formats?
What types of deck-building restrictions are there going to be (i.e. one-of cards, colors/classes)?
How do you plan on battling net-decking?
How is downtime (waiting for other matches to finish) in tournaments going to work?
How are you going to make cards that are cool and playable but not considered “OP” or too draw reliant or that have too much RNG?
I agree with your comments on net decking; have you decided how your tournaments will work? Will matches be a best of “X” or, in an effort to make it go quicker, have only one game to progress? Also, the very fact that you have tournaments changes how net decking will be utilized; it won’t have the same sort of reliability.
> Will matches be a best of “X” or, in an effort to make it go quicker, have only one game to progress?
We’re still debating this. For example: If we do 8-person tournaments, then it takes 3 rounds to win it. If each game is 15 mins on average, and we do ‘best of 3’ – then each match can last up to 45 mins. So the entire tournament will be about 2 hours.
What are your thoughts, is 2 hours too long?
two hours is totally not too long if there is some way to take a break, or do it in segments. maybe the tournament would not be exclusive to 8 players, and it could be an entire system of players queued for matches that you could enter into at any time, then if you lost you would be out of THAT tournament, and just start another one, and if you won you would move onto the next round… sry if this comment is hard to understand XD
Sounds outstanding! If all of the goals can be accomplished, this will be an immediate fan favorite.
Thanks for your support Noah!
This seems GREAT! I’ve played hrarthstone and duelyst before, and both have and major downsides and unoriginality. But this game looks good and extremely promising.
I like the Idea of every card being free, but I hope that there will be enough cards and enough unique interesting cards that there won’t be the “weekly meta deck”. I do have one question though, in some ccg games there are tribes like in hearthstone there are beasts dragons murlocs and more, will this game have that and will they have synergy?
> I do have one question though, in some ccg games there are tribes like in hearthstone there are beasts dragons murlocs and more, will this game have that and will they have synergy?
Yeah, we’ll definitely have tribes and synergy between those cards.
Hi. I love the game concept but I would like to like some rng that doesn’t affect the game, cuz I have a gambling addiction for packs. I think it would be cool if you can get chests or packs or something that gives you like alternative art cards or full art or different kinds of card back(pretty sure you got the card back thing covered), like in hearthstone how you can make your cards golden, etc. Ty and I can’t wait for the game to come out.
Thanks for your support Tom!
Yeah, we’re planning to have ‘alternate art’ card packs – it’s actually an idea suggested by our community. Sounds like you agree with it too!
BTW, you can also upgrade your cards cosmetically. Will share more details in the coming weeks.
Seems like a great concept but competitors will most likely overshadow this game since one of the reasons people like card games is for the satisfaction of finally getting the one card they wanted if it’s A full art like in Pokemon or golden like in Hearthstone. I’d recommend some sort of way to earn an advanced art of a card for a significant enjoyment factor even if its card packs or an in-game currency award. also since it’s a sci-fi universe, faction battles can be a cool way to promote the game or give rewards to players.
Great points, thanks for sharing!
We’re planning to include ‘alternate art’ card packs. Plus, we’ll also have a lot of cosmetics (heroes, card backs, card trims, boards, etc). We’ll also have in-game currency rewards for completing daily missions, etc.
So, there’ll definitely be lots of things you earn and get satisfaction from!
I’m hecka hype for this. Good luck to you guys
